The route, step by step

Times are suggestions. If the Royal School has a show that day, fit it into the morning.

  1. Morning

    Alcázar and camera obscura

Start at the Almohad fortress, with its mosque, gardens, Arab baths and camera obscura projecting views of the city onto a table.

  2. Mid-morning

Cathedral and Plaza de la Asunción

Go down to the Cathedral and continue to the Plaza de la Asunción, with the old Cabildo and San Dionisio.

  3. Noon

    Mercado de Abastos

Find fresh fish and local cured meats at the market, then have tapas for lunch at the surrounding bars.

  4. Afternoon

    Winery with tasting

Tour the wine-ageing halls, learn about sherry and enjoy a tasting. Book ahead, especially in peak season.

  5. Sunset

    Cathedral Stairs

The square glows golden in the evening light: a lovely place to pause.

  6. Evening

    Santiago and San Miguel

These neighbourhoods are at the heart of flamenco singing in Jerez. End the day at a tabanco or peña.
